Aside

“Before God, it seems to me that the Institute needs: Sisters who are imbued with the spirit of self-denial and sacrifice which fills them with the desire to work and suffer for Jesus Christ and for the good of their neighbor; Sisters who are firmly convinced that exact obedience, without any criticism or complaint, is the path they must courageously tread in order to attain perfection and holiness; Sisters who are able to master their own affections and keep their hearts fixed on God alone in order to be able to say together with Saint Francis of Sales: ‘If I were to know that one fibre of my heart was not for God, I would tear it out’; Sisters who neither regret having left the world, nor long for the possessions and conveniences they have renounced; Sisters who deem it a privilege to live in a condition of poverty and privation in imitation of their divine spouse Jesus who, being rich became poor in order to enrich men with His grace and to make them heirs of Heaven; Sisters who have no other ambition on earth than to follow Jesus Christ who was humiliated, crowned with thorns, and nailed to the cross so that they may, thus, praise Him surrounded by the angels and saints in the glory of heaven.

We have need of Sisters who have a strong physical constitution, a good character, and a reasonably cheerful disposition, who desire above all else to become saints, not by doing anything extraordinary but only what is normal, thus becoming an inspiration to their fellow-men, especially the young, attracting them to the practice of the Christian virtues; finally Sisters who are, or at least can become effective instruments for promoting the glory of God in the fulfillment of those responsibilities, and the accomplishment of those activities which are proper to the Institute.”

It really makes me think to read this!  Am I ready and willing to be all that in my life?  I certainly hope so!   I smile in reading this, even though I see the challenges and hardships that can come with it.  To counter that, there is so much joy!

G-U-I-DANCE

These past days have been on the tougher end but don’t get me wrong, still absolutely wonderful.  I simply love the sisters!  Anyways, it has been hard.  There is a lot of inner battles and inner work to be done on myself.  This is of course, a bit normal for one going through a formation process as we are doing.  One of the sisters got me in my moment of complete meltdown (happens every now and then, I suggest not holding things in) since we are cooking together on Mondays this month.  I have talked with her a little here and there, vaguely.

Tonight, when I got in the chapel for evening prayer, I found something on my chair.  I looked around and noticed no one else had it.  Certain parts of it were highlighted.  For the sake of sharing it here, I will put what was highlighted in italics.

GUIDANCE – Author Unknown

When I meditated on the word GUIDANCE, I kept seeing “dance” at the end of the word.  I remember reading the doing God’s will is a lot like dancing.  When two people try to lead, nothing feels right.  The movement doesn’t flow with the music, and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.

When one person realizes and lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music.  One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or by pressing lightly in one direction or another.  It’s as if two become one body, moving beautifully.  The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other.

My eyes drew back to the word GUIDANCE.  When I saw “G,” I thought of God, followed by “u” and “i.”  “God,” “u” and “i” “dance.”  God, you and I dance!  This statement is what guidance means to me.

As I lowered my head, I became willing to trust that I would get guidance about my life.  Once again, I became willing to let God lead.

My prayer for you today is that God’s blessings and mercies be upon you and your family this day and everyday.  May you abide in Him as He abides in youDance together with God, trusting Him to lead and to guide you guide you through each season of your life.

I hope you dance!!

After much debate throughout dinner, I went to ask the sister I mentioned prior if she saw who placed a paper on my chair.  She gave me this look and said it was her.  It was perfect!  She has been cleaning out her office and such, and while doing so stumbled upon it.  I guess when she looked at it, she thought of me.  She highlighted it and left in on my chair to find at prayer.

That little thing was something I really needed to hear I think.  It has given me something to reflect on.  As many people know, I love poetry, music, and dance.  All of that coupled with being in the great outdoors of God’s creation.  I am simply myself that way.  I am not sure she knows completely the timing of it, though I do know she has a really good idea of it.  This sister has really been a blessing to me and one of the two I trust the most.  I think I may have thanked her a few times for this one!

Short Poems on a Visit

While I was visiting the Salesian Sister’s this past weekend (just got home 30-40 minutes ago), I created three short poems at various times.  Thus, I am going to share them with you.  Stay tuned until next time to hear about the amazing packed filled weekend that I had!

—–

Oh the woe in the world

Filled with shiny green

Passing by missing beauty

Love of God to you unseen

If but you were free

Love of the Lord surround

The failing world be gone

Only then to love be bound

—–

Yet still there are tears

Even so among the joy

Where do they come from

These emotions of sort

Could it be a deep love

Or else being worn down

How do I turn to the Lord

In what way do I pray

Friends never near me

Distance tears the heart

But in God we find trust

So with the tears I live

I must lay it down now

Living for Jesus my mission

Breath and let things unfold

—–

Love is many things

Hugs from a friend

The sun beaming down

A letter in the mail

Music reaching the soul

Receiving some good news

Tears falling down the face

A breeze blowing by

Laughter that carries far

Healing tough of a hand

Blessings received each day

Yes the list is countless

Just as stars in the sky

Where is your love
