Self-Control

Today is the Commemoration of the Feast of Mary Mazzarello.  On this day, as with others of our Salesian Saints no other days, we put out a relic of that saint.  As well, there are cards with virtues, sayings, and such that relate to the saint.  This is what was on my card that I went to get.

Self Control

If we struggle against our defects with good will, they will help us advance on the way to perfection, as long as we are humble.

Virgin most Prudent, assist us this day.

Evangelical Simplicity

The flow of grace into a soul is often hindered and postponed indefinitely by that unwillingness to become as “little children.”

Simplicity orientates the soul in the right direction, to an encounter with Christ.

Simplicity captures the light of God.

Holiness is Union.  Unity through simplicity.

Perfection and sanctity consist in union with God through charity which urges the will to fulfill God’s commands promptly and with constancy.

Thought from a class I take, Salesianity.  The book with use is “A Soul Led by the Holy Spirit” by Sr. Lina Dalcerri, FMA.

Learning from Mother Mazzarello

When asked what I wanted to learn from Mary Mazzarello, I drew a blank stare in my mind.  We studied in pretty good detail, through reading the Cronistoria and Maccono, the life of Mother Mazzarello.  I had various reflections on what her life was like and how it could relate to my own journey to becoming, God-willing, a Salesian Sister.  To say now, though, what I want to learn from her appears very difficult.  This is what I have finally come up with.

I want to better know her life, her way of living, everything about here and relate it to my life.  Just to know her as the human person that she was here on earth over the saint that we praise her for today.  While they are one in the same, looking at her qualities that make her a saint causes one to forget about all the qualities that make her the whole person she was.  I want to learn the discernment and patience that she had with others.  In the end, I want to learn everything that I can from her.

There is no one particular thing that I wish to gain from this beautiful soul, but to soak up her life and who she was so that I may learn how to better be myself in this amazing institute.

Mary’s Letters

Words cannot express much about the love of Christ that Mother Mary Mazzarello had.  Here is a simple video with her words of wisdom that she wrote to her communities.

TidBits of an Update

Once again, it has been longer than the usual length since my last post.  I am not sure I could ever fully explain all the reflection that runs through my head!  Many times I have found myself staring at the blank new post screen knowing there is so much I could share but no words appearing on the screen.  My mind has been wandering everywhere it could possibly go.  So here, I may do some brief little tidbits, leaving the hope for more to come.

Misunderstood and made too complicated.  Two things that pass through my mind, and recently in a particular situation.  A lot of times I feel that others misunderstand the reason behind the way that I may appear, or even assume they know what is going on within.  The one particular situation lies with that of one of my friendships.  It is hard to be in touch and keep updated when the feeling of overly watching eyes are somewhere.  Here is the funny part, in different things said to me, it has been made clear contact with my friend is perfectly fine and nothing to have to be cautious about.  Imagine that?  Too complicated it has become? Yes.  Simple as that.

Sisters and those in formation meeting with Mother Mazzarello must have been like me meeting with Sr. Phyllis.  The inspiration that I got from that meeting, along with the encouraging words, was more than enough to reassure me of just about everything.  I left smiling, of course the small tears in the heart of healing, but I was most assuredly smiling!

I have actually hit another blank.  Somewhere in various books that I am reading, there are quotes and very interesting things that I would love to share.  I just have to find them and then reflect on them.  Thus, I hope tonight with pop out another reflection…but we shall see.
